A lovely place to stay

Torre Marabino is a very well cared for, comfortable boutique hotel. Every where is clean and well maintained, with good sized, well-equipped rooms and excellent, friendly staff. Wifi is quite quick. We stayed for a week and the only downside for us was the lack of change of the dinner menu and the bland taste of most of the dishes. Fresh herbs are picked from the garden every evening, but don't seem to be put to good use - other guests felt the same. On the other hand, breakfast was always very good, with lots of choice. If the dinner concern was addressed, it would undoubtedly get lots of 5 star reviews

Friendly & relaxing hotel

We were a family of 4 - with two small children, having read the reviews on here we were confident this would be a good holiday for us, catering for all our needs, and mostly it did.

The 7 room hotel is 4 star (although Tripadvisor mark it as a 3 star) and is tucked away in rural countryside, on an organic farm site.

We were in the ‘Moscato’ suite which size wise was perfect although we felt that the downstairs open plan room could have had some more shelves and hooks to put things / clothes away... as a result it always felt messy with the children’s things everywhere with no obvious place to put things.

The mini bar fudge doesn’t really get cold enough and so even though we chilled wine, we still had to request an ice bucket each time we got the bottle out.

The room got extremely dark at night and occasionally the children needed the loo (which was upstairs) in the night, after the third night we plugged in a bedside lamp under the stairwell to give a small bit of light so that the children could see the stairs and climb up them without our help. It would have been a nice touch (at very little expense!) to have a plug in night light if the suite is being used by families.

The swimming pool and jacuzzi was 17° (end of Oct)... it didn’t stop our kids from swimming, but was too cold for me.

Its location is great for visiting nearby towns such as Noto, Modica, Scicli etc. It’s worth mentioning if you’re coming expecting amazing views on the hotel grounds, that there is a half built motorway nearby and also the farm’s plastic tunnels.

The grounds are big enough for children to explore but small enough to feel safe, which meant we, as parents could relax. There’s a small playground which the kids used every day. They had a lot of fun!

The hotel obviously has families in mind as it has a playground, however their "Moresca" restaurant could have catered for families a lot better. It was too formal and as others have said not really that family friendly as it didn’t open until 20.00 and there wasn’t much on the menu suitable for children, or even a children’s menu. Having said that we ate in there every night (there wasn’t much choice locally) but had to make special requests for the children and a special request to eat at 19.30. (Eg fresh Fish and chips (££!), pasta carbonara, tomato pasta etc).

We had a REALLY really delicious ravioli dish, but otherwise I would say the food was ‘good’ but we had better dishes on our lunches out (eg fresh pistachio pesto and prawn pasta at Cianciuolo, swordfish and aubergine and pine nut pasta in Millenium, Scicli...)

Because they don’t have a children’s menu, when we got the bill we were a bit surprised by the charges as the prices were about the same as adult dishes. All hotels we stay at either have kids menus or/and children under 5 eat free.
Also children’s juices were charged at €5 and were not freshly squeezed for that price!
It could also be a good idea if they had a ‘family hour’ at 19.00 for instance which had a simpler menu, or even a kids buffet, this would also solve a lot of issues.

Drinks - you’re allowed to bring your own drink into the lounge area which is great!

If the restaurant is trying to be No 1 in the area and open to local residents, I would expect freshly squeezed juices and ice cubes (they don’t have ice cubes, only crushed ice and so if you want a ‘scotch on the rocks’ on a gin and tonic over ice, that won’t be possible!!)

Overall we had a lovely holiday and all the staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful - we will probably return. I think if the hotel made a few small tweaks I would happily give it 5 stars.

What an absolutely charming country bed and breakfast. Grounds are in pickle boy cap and so is the hotel. Our room was large and extremely comfortable. The playground was small but adequate, pool was relaxing and comfortable. Make sure you schedule a dinner you will not be disappointed, Breakfast are included and are outstanding.

The Relais Torre Marabino Hotel is a very pleasant Hotel set of the main road up a very unmade road but in the heart of the countryside. The Hotel has 7 rooms. Four superior rooms upstair accessible by about 20 stone steps.
( No Lift) Downstairs in the Courtyard looking out into the gardens there another three rooms. They seem to be rather dark.
We had a Superior room which was very spacious and look out over the pool with a large on suit also a kitchenette where you could cook a small meal. The staff are very friendly and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. The Breakfast is Fruit and cold meats with cheeses and a selection of pastries. The evening meal is prepared well with a good selection of various dishes including a different fish and main course change daily.
My only moan could be the stairs to the Superior rooms. Also the pool is 1.6 m deep could be a problem for non-swimmers and young Children. Also the jacuzzi was not working.

The hotel is ideally located to discover the south-east of Sicily and is in an old tower overlooking the the sloping terrain. The garden is beautiful and full of local trees and other plants, including extremely old olive trees of many centuries.

The hosts were always welcoming and went beyond what you could expect to help you with suggestions to visit in the area, absolutely fabulous!

Dinners were delicious and well prepared, more gourmet than trattoria style. The wines, mostly from their Marabino winery, obviously, were a nice discovery into indigenous grapes and wine styles, highly recommended!

Special thanks to the reception staff that kept us pro-actively informed of reservations and suggestions through WhatsApp during our stay. Well done!
